October is full of events happening in the communities of Airdrie, Cochrane, and Langdon – all provide a great opportunity to get involved and have fun in your local community.

 


 

Airdrie

When: Saturday, Oct. 17, 9 – 2:30 p.m.

Where: East Lake Park (720 East Lake Blvd, Airdrie, AB)

What is it: Defeat Depression is a self-named “national mental health awareness, anti-stigma, and fundraising campaign that provides hope and reduces stigma for those affected by depression and other mood disorders." This year, the community in Airdrie hopes to “Unmask Mental Health” with a Halloween-themed run and walk for children and adults. The day begins at the Grace Baptist Church (1009 East Lake Blvd.) and the first 100 people will get to be transformed into zombies! Everyone else is encouraged to come dressed as a zombie or in a Halloween costume, and there will be a children’s run/walk, and adult run/walk, Halloween-themed Zumba in the park, a silent auction, costume contests, prizes, candy, and more entertainment. Vegetarian Potluck Thanksgiving Dinner

When: Sunday, Oct. 18, 5-7 p.m.

Where: Airdrie Town and Country Centre (276 Jensen Dr., Airdrie, AB)

What is it: Calling all vegetarian and food lovers alike! Admission is free but each guest is encouraged to bring a potluck vegetarian dish to share. In addition to dinner, door prizes will be awarded as well.

 


 

Cochrane

Community Wellness Fair

When: Saturday, Oct. 24, 10-2 p.m.

Where: Spray Lakes Sawmills Family Sports Centre (800 Griffen Rd., Cochrane, AB)

What is it: The Community Wellness Fair aims to provide information to the community on healthy living, as well as offer fun and entertaining exhibits, activities, photo booths, demonstrations, taste tests, and more. Admission is free, but all participants are welcome to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Food Bank.

 

Goblin Gathering

Where: RancheHouse (101 RancheHouse Road, Cochrane, AB)

When: Saturday, Oct. 31, 2-4 p.m.

What is it: This annual gathering of goblins, ghouls, and other Halloween creatures provides a family-friendly Halloween fun including entertainment, games, food, and more activities to celebrate Halloween!

 


 

Langdon

Where: Langdon Fieldhouse

When: Saturday, Oct. 17, 6:30-11:30 p.m.

What is it: Join in the Oktoberfest celebration with a dinner and dance put on by the Langdon Community Association. Tickets can be purchased for $30/person by following the link above for an evening of food, drink, dancing, and a contest for the best male and female German costume!
