Community Activities This Winter & Holiday Season

Don’t let snow and cold weather deter you from exploring events and activities put on by your local community this December. From outdoor activities to Santa visits, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!



 -       Santa Claus visits and parade:

Visit with the jolly man himself at the Sawmill Family Sports Centre throughout the month of December! On December 12, the visit will also include a skating with Santa event in the afternoon, and a parade along Centre Avenue in the evening that includes live entertainment.


Santa visits – December 5, 6, 13, 19, 20: 12 – 2 p.m. and 12: 10 – 12 p.m.

Skating with Santa – December 12: 1 – 2:15 p.m.

Parade – December 12: 5 p.m.


Visits and skating –  800 Griffin Road, Cochrane, Alberta.

Parade – Starts at the former Cochrane Dodge lot (Railway Street E to Centre Avenue) and ends at Charlesworth Avenue, Cochrane, Alberta.

-       Outdoor free public skating:

Sponsored by the Cochrane Rotary Club, free public skating is available throughout the winter on Saturdays from 1 – 2:15 p.m. and Sundays from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Be sure to check the online schedule before heading out as there may be closures due to weather or tournaments.

When: Saturdays, 1 – 2:15 p.m. & Sundays, 6:30 – 8 p.m.

Where: Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (800 Griffin Road).


-       Holiday music concerts:

The Music of Christmas show from the Cochrane Music Society is free for the public but donations for the food bank are encouraged. The music played will mostly be Christmas music but also includes classical, contemporary, folk, gospel, and jazz.

When: December 17, 7:30 p.m.

Where: Cochrane Alliance Church (902 Glenbow Drive, Cochrane, Alberta)

-       Indoor and outdoor skating:

Throughout the winter season public times are available at the Indus Recreation Centre for indoor ice skating. Langdon Park offers outdoor skating with rinks for ice hockey and ice skating.
