Spring Events In Cochrane & Langdon

Spring Is Here!

 

Although the snow may not be gone for good yet, the unusually warm weather has definitely made residents ready to enjoy activities and events in their local community. From sports and recreation programs to special events, here’s what’s happening in Langdon and Cochrane this March and April:

Langdon


Events:

-       Art on the Boardwalk

When: Saturday, April 2, 2 - 6 p.m.

Where: I. O. O. F. Hall, Langdon, AB

The art exhibition and sale will feature paintings, drawings, photos, and more for participants for $100 and under. Free admission and door prizes will also be available for participants. All proceeds for the art exhibition go to the Wheatland Women’s Shelter.

 

Parks:

-       Langdon Park

The Langdon community park includes a playground, skate park, paved pathway, baseball diamond, beach volleyball court, and grassy areas. Located in the centre of town, the park is easy to access for residents and offers a variety of activities for visitors.

-       Western Irrigation District Canal Pathway

This 26 km long paved pathway runs between Calgary and Chestermere, not far for residents of Langdon. Cyclists, walkers, runners, and in-line skaters will enjoy this flat and easy path that passes by a few wetland locations.

 

Sports and Recreation:

-       Strikers Baseball

Registration has started for little league baseball in the Langdon area for children and young adults ranging from 4 to 14 years old. More information on the different age groups, equipment needed, and registration, can be found on the website.

 

Cochrane


Events:

-       Friday Barbeque

When: Every Friday night in March, 6 – 7 p.m.

Where: 114 5th Ave. W, Cochrane, AB

The Cochrane Legion is hosting a barbeque for anyone who is interested every Friday night in the month of March. Steak and hamburgers will be available for $9 and $7.50, respectively.

-       Extreme Cowboy Show

When: April 15 – 16, 9 – 5 p.m.

Where: Cochrane Agriculture and Society Grounds, 43080 Bow Valley Trail, Cochrane, AB

The Extreme Cowboy Show features riders and horses practicing good horsemanship by completing obstacle courses with different difficulty levels.

 

Parks:

-       Glenbow Ranch

The Glenbow Ranch, located at 2550001 Glenbow Rd., approximately 10 minutes outside of Cochrane. The large parkland area provides visitors with the chance to view endangered ecosystems, rare species, and the Glenbow townsite.

-       Big Hill Springs

The Big Hill Springs park is located further outside of Cochrane in Rocky View No. 4, boasts beautiful scenery and paths for hiking, as well as the opportunity to see wildlife. There are also picnic sites, which makes this park a great place to spend an afternoon with friends and family.

 

Sports and Recreation:

-       Programs: Residents in Cochrane have many options for spring programs, with different sports and activity programs put on by the Town of Cochrane, the Boys and Girls Club, and the RancheHouse. More information and a list of of programs can be found on the town’s website.

-       Recreation: In addition to playgrounds, soccer pitches, ball diamonds, tennis courts, and swimming pools around Cochrane, the town also features the Zero Gravity Skate Park. The park is available for skaters and cyclists of all ages. Automatic park lights and regular maintenance will commence on April 1 thru October 31.
